Lars Coenen is full professor in innovation studies at CIRCLE and research leader for the platform dealing with sustainability transitions and innovation. He is also (part-time) research professor at NIFU, the Nordic Institute for Studies in Innovation, Research and Education. His research interests converge around regional innovation systems, eco-innovation and sustainability transitions. Empirically his research is centred on topics related to innovation and the biobased economy as well as sustainable urban transitions. His work has been published in leading international journals such as Research Policy, Environment and Planning A and the Journal of Cleaner Production. Lars has pioneered the emerging field on the geography of sustainability transitions. His paper ‘Environmental Innovation and Sustainability Transitions in Regional Studies’ has been awarded the 2013 best paper award in Regional Studies. He has extensive experience in securing external funding and collaboration in national and international research projects financed by e.g. the European Science Foundation, European Framework 7 Program, Nordic Energy Research and the Swedish Energy Agency. Lars is member of the steering group of the Sustainability Transitions Research Network (STRN).
